HEaDS was established by Peter Haywood in early 2006, to provide a quality engineering and infrastructure design service to clients within the housing and construction industry. From his understanding of their specific needs and drawing on a wealth of experience, from working within technical departments in the industry, it was clear that there is a lack of experienced design engineers that can provide accurate and punctual work.

Peter has nearly a decade of experience within the house building industry which is complemented by an additional 12 years within ‘heavy civils’ consultancies, before HEaDS was set up, working on projects as diverse as resewerage schemes for Severn Trent Water, major demolition and contaminated land remediation for private clients, and work within Railtrack (as they were known at the time). A period of time was also spent within a Severn Trent Water drainage agency, within a local district council. This experience has provided a strong understanding of commercial needs and deadlines, procedures within adopting authorities, the costs of delays, as well as the day to day practicalities of works on site.

As all major ‘heavy civils’ consultants are Quality Assured, HEaDS draws on this background to ensure that work is well documented and organised, without the costs associated with full QA status.

This broad knowledge allows HEaDS to provide a considered approach to the design work which helps to ensure a smooth route through the increasingly difficult Technical Approval stages of infrastructure design.

HEaDS also provide a service for site appraisals, and HEaDS are therefore prepared to make ‘first contact’ with local authorities, drainage authorities and service companies. Whilst it is appreciated that land at appraisal stage is an extremely sensitive subject, Clients are assured of total discretion at all times. Any contact or discussions with 3rd parties will only take place after explicit permission from the client has been obtained, and all client instructions will be precisely followed.

HEaDS are also working closely with a number of clients in producing flood risk assessments in support of planning applications, and is therefore in regular discussion with local authority planners and the Environment Agency.

Peter Haywood is an Associate member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and is registered with The Engineering Council, gaining these qualifications in 1994. Professional Indemnity insurance covering all our design work, to a level of £2 million is in place.
